first_imgEmmanuel Clottey has been handed a starting role as the Black Stars lead striker for Ghana’s friendly against Egypt ahead of captain Asamoah Gyan, on Thursday in Abu Dhabi.The match kicks off at 9pm local time (1700 GMT).Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah named last season’s African Champions League top scorer in his starting XI in their first match of the year in preparation towards this month’s Africa Cup of Nations.Kwadwo Asamoah will start the game against the Pharaohs as part of the defensive unit as he occupies the left-back position.Fatau Dauda will guard the goal for the Black Stars while Jerry Akaminko partners John Boye in central defence.The game against Egypt is the first of two arranged friendlies – next game is against Tunisia on Sunday – for the Black Stars. Nicholls’ Peters Picked As Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ Roddy Peters is the Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by Peters helped the Colonels pick up two home wins on the week to improve to 5-1 in Southland play for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Nicholls (11-8, 5-1 SLC) opened the week with an 85-80 win Wednesday over McNeese (6-10, 3-3 SLC) followed by an 86-79 victory to Central Arkansas (9-10, 3-3 SLC) on Saturday. The Colonels host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-11, 1-4 SLC) this Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT before competing at Lamar (10-8, 2-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Peters continued his streak of scoring 20-plus points to four games, dropping 26 points in the week’s opener against McNeese and adding 21 on Central Arkansas. As the sixth man for Nicholls, the Washington D.C. native shot 57 percent from the field and 72 percent from the charity stripe to lead the Colonels’ scoring. The senior guard also tallied five rebounds against the Cowboys and was two rebounds shy of a double-double against the Bears.
