REVEALED! Van Persie was told to find new club at Man United golf day

first_img Robin van Persie and Louis van Gaal 1 Louis van Gaal has revealed that he informed Robin van Persie he had no future at Manchester United during the club’s annual golf day in May.The Dutchman has agreed a three-year contract with Fenerbahce, with the Turkish side finalising a fee with United before officially confirming his arrival. The move has come as something of a surprise given that just 12 months ago, Van Persie was Holland captain under the 63-year-old at the World Cup.But Van Gaal once again exhibited his ruthless streak by deciding to sell the 31-year-old after he scored just 10 goals for the club last term. And Van Gaal revealed at a press conference in Seattle on Wednesday night that he delivered the news to Van Persie at the club’s end-of-season golf day two months ago.The United boss said: “I had the conversation at the end of the season, so he knew already what was coming.“I told him in a conversation with him and we have to keep it like that. He knew that from the day we played golf, we spoke about the prospects of him at United.”The decision may have been ruthless, but it was one Van Gaal made with something of a heavy heart.“Every decision is difficult to sign and let them go,” the Dutchman added. The former Barcelona coach believes Van Persie has chosen his next club wisely, though.“I think he did a very good choice,” Van Gaal added.“When I was (Holland) coach, I watched Fenerbahce because of (Dirk) Kuyt and I was always received in a very warm way.“I think Robin will like it, to be in that warm club. I wish him all the best and I have also texted that to him.”last_img
